Conversations on Marriage

On three Wednesday evenings,  Jan. 18,  Feb. 1 & 15, 2012, we are continuing our discussion and discernment begun last Spring of  how we at CHPC are responding to the shifting understanding and practice of marriage today.  The first of these, on Jan. 18 was informative reflection and discussion of biblical theological perspectives on marriage.  Please watch this space for details of subsequent discussion topics, and read on for more information: more details…

From the Pastor

Dear Friends,

A majority of the presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) have voted to amend our Book of Order in a way that opens ordination as Elders, Deacons, or Ministers of Word and Sacrament to all people regardless of sexual orientation.

Pastor’s Welcome

Pastor Walton

I’m glad you’ve come our way and hope that you’ll be a part of our journey as we seek to be a people and place of God’s presence in our community and the world. I think you will discover Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church to be a community of faith seeking paths of authentic worship, nurture, and service.

Our common life is centered in the worship and praise of God. So we come together regularly to worship in a spirit of hope and joy, often finding new insights about God and ourselves when we are gathered together.

At CHPC we are not asked to check our minds at the door. This is a place where it is safe to ask questions and to express doubt. We believe that God’s truth is always greater than any one individual or communal understanding of that truth. We’re constantly learning new things and having some of our own assumptions challenged. If you are looking for a community of faith that seriously nurtures this kind of intellectual freedom, perhaps CHPC is the place for you.

Of course, no relationship with God or other people is complete if it doesn’t capture our hearts. Personal transformations really do happen here, as people are invited into relationship with each other, with the world around us, and with the mystery of God.

We often find that as we are changed, we are moved with passion for life and compassion for others. And so, nurture of one another and service to others are central to this community.

I invite you to come with us on this exciting journey of faith, community and service!

If you have any questions about anything you discover while visiting us, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Thanks for checking us out.

Peace be with you.
