Growing in Grace and Gratitude – Newly developed for PCUSA, Growing in Grace & Gratitude curriculm is rooted in the foundation of Presbyterian identity where God’s grace and our gratitude are the heartbeat of our faith, life, and worship; extends an invitation to discipleship that inspires children to learn and practice hospitality, generosity, and love; and reaches beyond Sunday morning, encouraging children to live their lives as an expression of God’s grace.
Sessions of Growing in Grace & Gratitude are grounded in Bible stories that reveal God’s grace. Through fun activities, prayer, and singing, children and their leaders will celebrate the meaning of this grace in their lives as they encounter a living God.
There are two class groupings, each using age-appropriate materials from the Growing in Grace and Gratitude curriculm: Early Childhood (3-5 years) andChildhood (5-12 years). The classes are team taught and coordinated by Beth Hannold and Clara Gillispie. Class begins at 9:45 am in the classrooms off of Fellowship Hall followed by children’s choir at 10:30 am until 10:45 am.
Nursery & Child Care
Child care is provided during both Sunday School and Sunday Worship from 9:45 am to 12:15 pm (time change during summer.)
The Nursery Room is located on the first floor, off of Fellowship Hall. Our nursery staff are experienced and fully vetted according to child protection requirements of the District of Columbia.
Children are always welcome in the sanctuary, but for families wishing to worship with their infant children and would like more privacy, there is an enclosed Family Room located on the third floor which overlooks the sanctuary and is furnished with rocking chairs, a crib, toys, crayons, etc.
Child care is almost always provided free of charge at all church wide events, but be sure to inquire as each event is announced.
Children in Sunday Service
Children of all ages are welcome to join their families in the Sanctuary for church services. On many Sundays the service will include a special “Time with the Children” before the sermon.
Kids Kits are available just outside of the sanctuary and contain a variety of quiet activities to keep young ones occupied. Families are welcome to grab one of these kits for use during the service and are asked to return them to their place afterwards.
CHPC also offers a Family Room on the third level of the church, with windows overlooking the Sanctuary. This room is enclosed and fairly sound-proof, and includes a wide variety of toys. Parents are asked to stay with their children in this room, and the sermon is audible through speakers in the Family Room.
