Education

Education

Our “Growing in Grace and Gratitude” curriculum, developed by the Presbyterian Church USA, is intended to inspire children to learn and practice hospitality, generosity, and love.  The lessons are grounded in Bible stories that reveal God’s grace.  Through fun activities, prayer and singing, children and their leaders will celebrate the meaning of this grace in their lives, reaching beyond Sunday mornings as they encounter a living God in their daily lives.

There are two class groupings, each using age-appropriate materials from the “Growing in Grace and Gratitude” curriculum.  One class is for ages three to five, the other from Grades 1-5.  The classes are coordinated by Maryann Stampfli and Jennifer Newton.  Class begins at 9:45 in rooms off Fellowship Hall, followed by children’s choir from 10:30 to 10:45.
We are introducing a new program for ages five and up that takes place most Sundays immediately after the “Time with the Children” portion of the worship service.  The program encourages children to play and experiment with Legos while learning Bible stories.  We have a few Legos to start our collection, but if you have any Legos at home that are no longer being used, we would love to add them to this program.  We also need leaders and helpers!  This is a great opportunity for our teenagers to put those atrophied Lego muscles back in use!  If you have supplies to contribute or time to invest in this program, please reach out to Maryann Stampfli.

Nursery & Child Care

Child care is provided during both Sunday school and Sunday worship from 9:45 am to 12:15 pm (time change during summer).

The Nursery Room is located on the first floor, off of Fellowship Hall. Our nursery staff are experienced and fully vetted according to child protection requirements of the District of Columbia.

Children are always welcome in the sanctuary, but for families with infant children who would like more privacy, there is an enclosed Family Room located on the third floor which overlooks the sanctuary and is furnished with rocking chairs, a crib, and toys.

Child care is almost always provided free of charge at all church-wide events, but be sure to inquire as each event is announced.

Children in Sunday Service

Children in Worship Service

Children of all ages are welcome to join their families in the Sanctuary for worship service.  On many Sundays, the service will include a special “Time with Children” before the sermon.

Kids Kits are available just outside of the sanctuary and contain a variety of quiet activities to keep young ones occupied. Families are welcome to grab one of these kits for use during the service and are asked to return them to their place afterwards.

CHPC also offers a Family Room on the third level of the church, with windows overlooking the Sanctuary. This room is enclosed, fairly sound-proof, and includes a wide variety of toys.

Parents are asked to stay with their children in this room, and the sermon is audible through speakers in the Family Room.
