Conversations on Marriage

On three Wednesday evenings,  Jan. 18,  Feb. 1 & 15, 2012, we are continuing our discussion and discernment begun last Spring of  how we at CHPC are responding to the shifting understanding and practice of marriage today.  The first of these, on Jan. 18 was informative reflection and discussion of biblical theological perspectives on marriage.  Please watch this space for details of subsequent discussion topics, and read on for more information: more details…

womensprayergroup.JPGCHPC is excited to be offering a diverse and very popular slate of Sunday School classes for all ages and interests. All classes begin at 9:45 a.m. prior to the 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship service. Visitors are welcome, any time!  There is no Church School from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

In addition to our regular Sunday School offerings, our Education Ministry also includes a Wednesday Evening worship/study program hosted by Pastor Andy Walton at 7:30 p.m. on the 2d and 4th Wednesday’s of the month.

A Variety of Church School Classes for All Ages are available this Fall (2011)

Pre-school Children, Ages 3 and 4Wee Believe. A curriculum specially developed by the Presbyterian Church (USA) to introduce young children to the Christian story.  During spring 2010, we will concentrate on themes that introduce children to the teachings of Jesus.  The goals for children in this age group are (1) to know that God loves the child, (2) to know that all people are loved by God, (3) to experience the church as a safe, loving place, (4) to recognize key Bible persons by name, and (5) to say key words of the worship service. For more information, please contact Beth Hannold.

Kindergarten/Elementary School Children, Ages 5 to 12. Godly PlayNo Single Way to Learn. A Christian curriculum based on the Montessori teaching philosophy, which recognizes that children have different styles of learning as well as different gifts. Godly Play respects those who need to see written information and those who rely on kinetic learning, those who learn better in small groups and those who need to be on their own. This is why the curriculum can span such a wide age range.  We tell stories with multi-sensory materials. In the “response time” the children who work best together can pair off or form groups to work on creative projects. Those who work best alone have the time and space to concentrate on projects by themselves. Then we gather the children together for storytelling and worship at the end of class. For more information, please contact Missy Boyette.

ADULT CLASSES:

Lectionary Bible Study – This class considers the lectionary readings for each Sunday at 10:00 a.m..  The selections are read and discussed, and thus requires no advanced preparation. People should feel free to drop in the class.

Imagining a Middle East Peace – Adults are welcome to join a 10 a.m. Sunday School class examining the responses of the American Christian community to the intractable problems in the Middle East.  The class will be taught by Sara Fritz and Fred Biery.

Wednesday Night Worship and Study will resume on Wednesday, September. 28 at 7:30 p.m. and continue on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. As a basis for worship and discussion, Pastor Walton will share his experiences and reflections on his summer sabbatical with the purpose of exploring with participants how various faith perspectives and spiritual practices inform and enrich our Christian faith.
